Costa Rica - 8 Day Itinerary
Once labeled the “Switzerland of Central America,” Costa Rica is one of the most stable countries of the region and one of the most beautiful. From the lush rain forests, to one of the world’s most active volcanoes, to beautiful white sand beaches, this country is unparalleled for its natural beauty. Yet in the midst of this paradise, significant issues need addressing. Poverty and lack of education still persist, especially in the rural areas. The average family income in Costa Rica is still under $4000 per year. Since World War II over 80% of the rain forest has disappeared to make room for more cattle grazing and farm land. The evangelical church, though dynamic and growing, is still small, and is looking for Christians from other countries to come along side and work with them in advancing the kingdom. What a perfect place for your group to not only be exposed to such diverse issues, but to have an impact in making a difference. Oh . . . and you will have the time of your life!

Day 1: Your group arrives in San Jose, checks into your hotel, and begins preparation for several crucial days of ministry. That includes touring the area and meeting with the local ministry team for some on site instruction and orientation.
Day 2-6: For these next five days your team comes along side this small congregation in the hills near Alajuela and works with them in a wide range of ministries depending on the time of year and events in the church calendar. As important as the different ministries you will be involved in such as VBS, youth outreaches into the community, helping in the construction of a new church, are the issues you will grow in these next five days such as: developing cultural sensitivity, building significant relationships with others in spite of the language barrier and other cultural differences, learning to trust God when you are way out of your comfort zone, learning the difference between acts of service and having a servant’s heart, experiencing how big God is and how much He loves others, to name just a few. It’s these growth areas that you will take with you wherever you go. On certain late afternoons and evenings, you group has the opportunity to experience some varied activities to build group unity and relax, from zip lining through the rainforest, to visiting Mt Arenal one of the world’s most active volcanoes. This tropical location also provides an ideal context to address the growing world issues such as deforestation, global warming, and what our response should be as Christians.
Day 7: Optional Activity - This is a day to remember as your group experiences a white water rafting trip on one of the many rivers that tumble through the region.
Day 8: Depart for home where the Global Journey continues!
