Spain and Morocco - Sample 10 Day Itinerary

Includes working with the Berber tribes of Morocco

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1
Journey to Europe. Board your overnight flight and arrive in Madrid on the following morning.

Day 2
Morning journey to ancient Toledo to visit the city’s gothic cathedral and old town. Transfer to Granada near the Sierra Nevada mountains. Evening guided walking tour of Granada. View the Alhambra Palace with its beautiful Moorish architecture. Also nearby is the Gereralife Gardens, where the Moorish kings spent their summers.

Day 3
Transfer to the Costa del Sol. Visit Gibraltar, an island under the control of the United Kingdom. Opt to visit the Ape’s Den, Michael’s Cave or shop in various British stores. Check in to the San Roque Mission base in the afternoon. This afternoon we will begin training to prepare for our ministry in Morocco. Evening fellowship with local Spanish Christians.

Day 4
Board the ferry across the straits of Gibraltar to Tangier or Cueta in Morocco. Travel by bus to the interior of Morocco where we will begin our ministry.

Days 5-8
Four days of ministry in the interior of Morocco. We will be in full-immersion environment, living amongst the Berber tribes and learning their culture. Most of the people we will be ministering to will be practicing Muslims. (Ministry days can be extended.)
On our last day we will make our way back to the port to board the ferry. In Tangier we will visit the Grand Socco marketplace and the Casbah. Drive as far as Seville that night.

Day 9
Morning tour of the capital of Andalusia. Visit the Plaza de Espana, Marie Luisa Park, and the Bario Santa Cruz. In the afternoon return to Madrid by coach. Along the way, we will stop in Cordoba to see the Moorish Palace. Free time in Madrid in the evening.

Day 10
Return home from Madrid.

This itinerary is intended to be a tentative guideline for this trip. Activities may be moved around due to timing, weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.

Trip Focus:
In addition to the ministry projects, regular devotions and group discussions will integrate the days’ ministry and sightseeing activities with Biblical principles of service and leadership. All travelers will be impacted in the following ways:

1) Develop a broader global perspective and increased cross-cultural understanding.
2) Learn how their own gifts and talents can be used effectively to share the Gospel in both word and deed.
3) Come to better understand principles of effective Christian leadership, including having “a servant’s heart”.
4) Have an opportunity to consider a life-long calling to overseas ministry.
5) Grow close to Spanish and Moroccan people and mission team members.
