How to Prepare for Your Domestic Trip
Parent Student Checklist
Please Note: Regulations continue to change regarding travel documents necessary to travel to ANY and ALL destinations outside of the U.S. . As a result, it is required that all travelers to any international destination (including Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean) have an official government-issued passport. Additionally, check with your Global Travel Alliance representative to see if minors need a notarized parental-permission slip.
Packing Tips:
Since airline regulations continue to change, make certain that you double-check all details regarding your flight requirements including luggage limitations.
Allow extra room for any gifts or souvenirs you purchase. Airlines are now strict regarding carry-on luggage.
Due to the new security measures regarding checked luggage implemented on January 1, 2003, film may be damaged by the machines used to scan luggage. It is best to keep film in your carry-on bag.
We suggest that you write your name and address inside of your suitcase. A lock is a good idea for additional security; as is keeping a record of your suitcase's contents.
Put things you might need on the first day into your carry-on. Make sure to keep your money with you during the entire trip.
Pack these items in your carry-on (NOT in the checked suitcase).
Change of undergarments and a clean shirt. (Luggage does get lost sometimes)
Any prescription medicine
An itinerary of the trip
Your tickets
Camera
Cash/credit cards, etc.
In the weeks before departure, check our online weather site for your destination cities and pack accordingly. Weather can be unpredictable.
Pack comfortable and light clothes so you can dress in layers. Bring boots or sturdy shoes (for hiking and working) and comfortable shoes (for shopping and sightseeing).
Bring at least two long sleeve shirts and two pairs of pants. We recommend one heavy sweater for spring and a light jacket and shorts for summer trips.
Being able to dress in layers is important!
Lightweight travel raincoats are a good idea
Bring work gloves and work clothes for the included work projects.
Also, don’t forget toiletries, waterproof flashlight, camera and film, hat or a cap, and sunscreen 20pf or more.
If you take a prescribed medication, you must notify your group leader. Do not mix medicine in the same bottle. It is very important to check with your doctor regarding your medication and any health concerns you may have prior to your trip. Be certain that medication is clearly marked and appropriately prescribed!
Don’t forget to bring a government-issued (drivers license) or school-issued ID for airport check-in. Your name on your ticket must be exactly the same as your name on your ID.
Money Matters:
Extra money is recommended for snacks, souvenirs, and a tip for the bus driver ($5).
Do not take any unnecessary valuables!
