Pacific Northwest - Sample 6 Day Itinerary
These trips are perfect for those who seek abundant adventure learning with limited time spent traveling from place to place. Explore the volcanic Cascade Mountain range, learn about marine ecology in the San Juan Islands, experience the Olympic Peninsula’s temperate rain forest, and travel back in time through Native American folklore. Rich in unique geology, marine ecology, forest ecology, ethnobotany, and regional natural and cultural history, the northwest is playground for adventure scientists! Sea Kayaking, hiking, backpacking, and whitewater rafting are just a few of the adventures available on these tours and much of the traveling is done by ferry. Time spent exploring the cultural sights around Seattle, WA and Victoria B.C. add a cosmopolitan flair to these adventures and make the unique modern history of the area come alive.
Choose from several shorter (5 7 day) trips focused on mountain exploration, marine ecology in the San Juan Islands, or a general overview of the coastal northwest. Or choose a longer itinerary (10 14 days) that allows your group to spend time in each micro-region and experience a little bit of everything while you are there!
Sample Itinerary:
Day 1
Arrive in Seattle, Washington. Spend the afternoon exploring the world famous Pikes Place Market
Day 2
Travel into the Cascade Mountains, home to more volcanoes than any other mountain range in the lower 48. The cascade Mountains are part of what scientist call the Ring of Fire. Explore the geology of this impressive area.
Day 3
In the morning we will travel to Anacortes Washington were we will board a ferry and travel into the San Juan Islands. Nestled in the Strait of Juan de Fuca Home to Orca Whales, Sea Otters, and many beautiful marine birds. No better way to explore the waters of this place than by sea kayaks. Pack all our equipment into expedition class kayaks and paddle out to Stuart Island where we will camp for two nights.
Day 4
Circumnavigation Stuart Island and Along the way we will be learning about the marine life, geology and ecology.
Day 5
Pack up and kayak back to San Juan Island. Catch a ferry to Vancouver Island. Stay a night in Victory B.C
Day 6
Ride the Victory Clipper back to Seattle. After seven life-changing days, depart for home!
