Southwest - Sample 6 Day Itinerary

Take an adventure science tour through the desert southwest and watch North America’s geologic and cultural history unfold. Walk in the footprints of ancient dinosaurs, unravel the history of the native Anasazi people, look out across the Grand Canyon, and hike through slot canyons still in the making. Opportunities abound in the southwest for educational adventuring, including float trips, horseback riding, and hiking in places that truly expose students to some of the United State’s most striking geology and history.

Itineraries for this region can be created to easily accommodate trips ranging from five to ten days in length and can be spent exploring the unique national parks of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona (including Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef and Grand Canyon National Parks), touring the Red Rock and historical Navajo regions of Arizona, or traveling throughout the entire region gaining fresh perspectives on North America’s geologic and cultural history.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1
Arrive in Phoenix early in the afternoon. Board our private bus and head north to Sedona. Free time for shopping and exploring in Sedona before dinner. Evening walking tour.

Day 2
Depart in the morning for the Grand Canyon. Hike into the Grand Canyon where we will study the history and geology of this incredible canyon. Driving tour through the Painted Desert, also known as the “Land of the Rainbows” by the Navajo Indians. Arrive in Page, Arizona overlooking Lake Powell. See the Glen Canyon Dam

Day 3
Morning cruise on Lake Powell! Enjoy our boat tour across the lake and through the adjacent canyons. Cross into Utah on our way to Bryce National Park. Late afternoon hike in the stunning Bryce Canyons. Evening rodeo when in season.

Day 4
Morning horseback ride in Bryce National Park! Ride along trails followed by the outlaw Butch Cassidy. Experience more of the unbelievable geology of Bryce. Shopping at the largest store in the area – Ruby’s General Store. Evening hike.

Day 5
Transfer to Zion National Park for a morning driving tour where we will stop to take pictures of the stunning canyons and rock formation. Canyon hike before departing for Las Vegas, Nevada. Zion is a story of rock and water, and the interaction has created shapes and patterns that are eye-popping. Also among the stops is the Great Arch of Zion.

Day 6
Depart from Las Vegas for home
